In a targeted attack on Thursday, Fulani Herdsmen attacked and killed a Catholic Seminarian, Lazarus Nwafor in the Southeastern Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu village of Enugu State.
An eyewitness report said the herdsmen had sent a notice a day before to the community informing them of the attack. This type of notice is emerging as a pattern in Jihadi attacks.
Also killed in the attack was Mrs. Nwarum, who was 6 month pregnant woman according to relatives.
The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who visited the scene and the community where the cattle herders had settled, condemned the attack.
“I have already summoned a security meeting this afternoon of Fulani community and the security agencies in Enugu State to review the situation and determine the appropriate actions to be taken,” he said.
Fulani Herdsmen, who are predominantly Muslims have targeted vulnerable Christian communities since 2010 in the middle part of Nigeria. These attacks now rank the Fulani Herdsmen the second deadliest Islamic groups in Nigeria.
