Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
Most would agree that we need peace in our lives today. Our world needs peace, our families need peace, our societies need peace and people needs peace. We can only have the desired peace with outside help as we are incapable of attaining it by ourselves it seems.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, offers us His peace. He is the only one who can address this absence of peace in our lives. If we have Him in our lives, we can know peace. He offers us this peace in the midst of our turmoil and pressure. His peace is not like the world he says. The world offers pleasure as a cheap substitute for peace. Jesus offers a deep assurance that no one can take away – the assurance of being with Him always. He offers us rest. He spoke: “Peace! be still” while in a boat with his disciples even as a wild storm threatened to capsize the boat. His words that calmed that storm can still calm ours. His presence that was the only guarantee of safety for the disciples is the only hope for us still. Let us cling to Him with all we have.
