Nigeria turns to Iran for aid

Nigeria’s President has called on Iran to help it out of its economic woes.

President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded Iran for its nuclear capability. He told the Iranian envoy to Nigeria: “You have also achieved a lot in nuclear research. I must also congratulate you for successfully negotiating with America and the European countries on the development of your nuclear energy.’’ 

He added, “We are grateful for your support and cooperation in opening up the Nigerian economy for diversification.”

Iranian Envoy, Mohammad Javad Zarif, called for a “better and stronger relationship with Nigeria” as “the largest country in Africa and a major global player”.

President Buhari has also recently held meetings about Nigeria’s economic difficulties with former British Prime Minister David Cameron and President Barack Obama
