In an audio released today, Abubakar Shekau insists he is in well and in charge of the terrorist group Boko Haram.
Shekau, speaking in the Hausa language, denounced al-Barnawi for plotting to over throw him. He claimed to have tried getting in contact with Al-Bagdadi, the ISIS leader but al-Barnawi had manipulated his letters. He still pledges his allegiance to ISIS in the audio.
This development shows a deep rift in the terrorist group and the division between Alqaeda in West Africa and ISIS.
In a government reaction, dismissing the announcement Segun Adeyemi, special adviser to the minister of information and culture, said, “Don’t believe the cheap propaganda by the global terrorist group ISIS, which has reportedly named a new leader for Boko Haram.”
