Complete shutdown of church after mob objects

Pastor Jacob Joseph

Pastor Jacob Joseph of New India Church of God in Shanti Nagar area of Dalli Rajhara, District Balod, Chhattisgarh was conducting regular Sunday worship on 29 January 2017, when a mob of about 300-350 men and women entered the Church at mid noon and objected to the worship service.

The mob not only argued with the Pastor and the Church members but also man-handled two male members and four women members of the church. The mob vandalised the cycles, scooter and other vehicles parked outside the church.

Pastor Joseph approached the police station to complain about the incident when the police station in-charge in reply said that Joseph has the permission to stay but not to hold a Church service on the land where he lived.

Later during the day in the evening few Church members came to visit Pastor and his family and some Hindu extremists noticed them coming. These people informed other Hindu extremists and forming a group they stormed into Pastors house.

They started to argue and threaten them creating a havoc till seven in the night until police arrived and took Pastor, his wife, the visiting Christians and the Hindu extremists to the police station.

They were released later in the night after listening to the arguments by both the sides that “hence forth no Church Service will take place in the New India Church of God,” informed Pastor Jacob Joseph.

Joseph and his family are fear stuck after all that has happened and requests for prayers for God’s guidance as to how they would do God’s ministry. Joseph has two children between 10 – 12 years.
