A Pakistani Christian girl was left potentially paralysed in hospital after she was thrown off the roof of a building by a Muslim suitor for refusing marriage.

The family of Benish Paul, a schoolgirl in year ten (ages 15 to 16) was approached by a local Muslim family, who asked for her hand in marriage. The family and Benish refused the proposal. Benish’s suiter continued to pressure her to marry him and convert to Islam.

She repeatedly refused and on the third week of August, he threw her from the second storey of a building. Benish’s spine was severely injured in the fall. She is now in hospital and may well be permanently disabled.

The Muslim family are reported to have tried to bribe medical staff to suppress the story and police pressured the family to drop the case after they reported it. It is now understood that her suitor has been arrested.
