Pastor killed in South Sudan for “making noise”

A Kenyan pastor, Mwendwa Joel, of the Christ Ministry in Munuki residential area in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, has been murdered by a South Sudanese, for “making noise with loudspeakers” during church services in Munuki suburb.
The police said the Sudanese, who has not been named, took a panga (machete) and hacked the pastor several times. Pastor Mwendwa died on the spot in the church. “The pastor was killed in the morning on Friday (23rd June), when people were praying in the church. The pastor was attacked after he closed his eyes during prayers,” South Sudan police Spokesman, Daniel Justin Boula, confirming the killing, said.

“The suspect has confessed during the investigation and said that he killed the pastor because he used to make noise with loudspeakers every morning in the church.” Daniel said, explaining that the attacker was arrested soon after the killing.

The police spokesman said the body of the late pastor has been taken to Juba Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem after which it will be given to the church and family members for burial.
