The advisory issued by the America Embassy stated, “Recent Indian media reports indicate ISIL’s desire to attack targets in India. The US Embassy warns of an increased threat to places in India frequented by Westerners, such as religious sites, markets, and festival venues.
“All US citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness as detailed in the State Department’s Worldwide Caution of September 9, 2016.“
The threat is not restricted to Delhi alone, but is applicable to any city across the country.
The IS-inspired module, the central agency claimed to have busted last month in Kerala, wanted to prove its presence in the state and had plans to take revenge on the Christian denomination that has a Syrian lineage. “The module busted here did not have direct support from IS but it wanted to prove presence in this part of the country. Agencies had information on the module’s discussions on identifying targets of attack and establishing its presence. The Christian denomination found place in the target list for its ancestral routes in Syria where Muslims where targeted during Crusades,” said an NIA officer.
